Hi, I’m Sydney (she/her).
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington. I offer Telehealth services only. I am trained in Existential Phenomenological Psychotherapy. I have 8 years of experience working in pediatric inpatient crisis stabilization and 4 years of experience providing outpatient clinical mental health services to adults of all ages. I specialize in the treatment of trauma and Eating Disorders. I also work with individuals struggling to navigate issues related to caregiving, racial identity, gender identity, neurodiversity, disability, grief, and women's issues. I am originally from Seattle and currently live in Orange County, California. I identify as a mixed-race, Creole and Caucasian, heterosexual, currently able-bodied, cis-gendered woman and mother. Outside of my work as a therapist, I love spending time with my family, coaching for the Special Olympics, walking, swimming, reading, cooking, baking, watching movies, and making candles. APPROACH AND MODALITIES My approach to therapy is rooted in a politicised and intersectional feminist framework. I utilize a combination of somatic, humanistic, narrative, psychodynamic, and evidence-based methods. My approach to Eating Disorder treatment is grounded in a Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective. I am also certified in Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E) EMDR. Politicized intersectional feminist therapy involves applying a critical lens to the structures that perpetuate suffering through discrimination, objectification, and exploitation. This approach recognizes the power of liberatory frameworks in the transformation of trauma, emphasizes the necessity of community-based healing, and understands suffering—not as a function of individual pathology—but as intimately connected to the social environment from which it emerges. I believe the best therapists are not detached technicians, but radicalized healers, responsibly committed to their communities, embodying qualities of social justice as well as humility, flexibility, openness, humor, and warmth. I also hold a deep hopefulness about the capacity of human beings to endure, overcome, and transform traumatic experiences. I hope to be present with you through your experiences of suffering and create the conditions for you to attach meaning to those experiences in ways that allow you to move forward. As a therapist, my job is to make it possible for you to leave our work with… 1). A more embodied experience of choice. 2). Greater authenticity in your relationships with others as well as yourself. 3). Increased capacity to meet your needs for safety, dignity, and belonging. 4). Deeper connection to your own longings. |
